Ameri-Flex / OCRS back in action Saturday at Lawton Speedway

TULSA, Okla. (May 30, 2016) - After a week off due to the weather, the Ameri-Flex / OCRS sprint cars are back in action with a return to Lawton Speedway on Saturday.

Sheldon Barksdale picked up the first of his three wins this season at Lawton and will be looking to make another strong run, but he will have his hands full with a strong field of competition expected.

Points leader Zach Chappell won his first feature of the season two weeks ago at Longdale Speedway with a last lap charge around race-long leader Cameron Hagin. The week before at Salina Highbanks Speedway Chappell made a similar late charge that resulted in a second place finish behind Sheldon Barksdale.

Barksdale’s victory at Salina was his second straight and third in five weeks. At Longdale, Barksdale saw his streak come to an end with a third place finish after contending with the front runners early in the race.

Coming into this weekends race, defending champion Robert Sellers sits second in points just 30 points behind Chappell and looking for his first victory of the season. Season opening winner Whit Gastineau holds down third just ten points behind Sellers. Barksdale is holding down the fourth spot and Cameron Hagin climbed into fifth after his second place finish last weekend at Longdale.

Several Lawton Speedway regulars will make winning at Lawton a challenging affair. Joe Bob Lee finished fourth just ahead of Gary Owens in fifth back on April 9th. Other contenders that have run well in the past are Kyle Ezell, Jerry Bruner, Morgan Fletcher and Shawn Bloomquist just to name a few.

Saturday’s stop is the second of three this season at the Lanny Edwards owned quarter-mile oval. The Ameri-Flex / OCRS sprinters will return on July 30.
